First of all, I wish you all a truly wonderful 2009. I hope this will be a year with lots of new, awesome things, whatever that may be. I just hope that you will be happy this year!

I know, I've been kind of lax in posting something here. Even though I had two weeks to do whatever I wanted. Somehow time always tricks me, I never seem to be able to do all the things I want when I have some spare time. And then, when school begins again, I suddenly start blogging again too. I don't know what it is;)

Sleeping is hard lately. I lay in bed at least 2 hours before I fall asleep. It bugs me. A lot. And then today, I woke up at 2 o'clock in the night, and I thought I had to go to school already. So I went to the bathroom, brushed my teeth, washed my hair, and when I was finished I noticed that my mum and my sister weren't awake, which was odd. So I went back to my room and saw 2:18 in red letters on my alarm clock. Damn it. Back to bed, and then the next morning I was still sleepy. Someone give me back my sleep!

I'm alright for the rest ;)

I'm sorry for the lack of post the last couple of days, I was pretty busy with school and partying!

Friday I performed at school night with my friend Suze. We sang and played guitar, it was a lot of fun! The next day she threw a big birthday party so partying partying partying again!
Sunday I went with a group of friends to London Calling on Tour. There were 3 bands.
It started with John & Jehn, I totally disliked them, they sucked so much.
After that, Noah And The Whale, who were pretty good. Though it was a pity that Laura Marling wasn't there.
But I actually came for the band who played last, Late Of The Pier. And they rocked!
We even danced on stage with them!

I still don't know what to think of tattoos. They can be very beautiful, but most of the times I think they're rather ugly. Like those little hearts or skull/roses or tribaltattoos. I think that if you decide to take one, you should take one that noone has, something unique. I do like tattoos in that way, but I still think I would never take one, what if you ever change your mind about it?

This is how I looked the day after Bloc Party. And it's only getting worse.
It started when one guy started screaming ugly words at me. I asked him to just shut up but he just went on with even more cruel words. So I said, let's handle this outside, while I rolled up my sleeves. Man, you should have seen me, I was hitting him like a masterboxer. He was all blue and red. But at the one moment I didn't pay attention he hit me in the eye. But I didn't care, because I had totally beaten his ass. If you only were there..

...Because if you really were there, you knew that I got hit by a girl that went stagediving with heels on. Her heel hit me right in the eye. Yeah, go ahead, laugh at me....;)
Anyway, it was a wonderful concert. And I was so happy they played a lot of songs from their previous albums. They just had so much energy, amazing!
At the end Kele just walked singing into the audience, and at the very end they all stagedived into the audience:D

Ryan McGinley!!

When I first saw it I immediately fell in love with this editorial with Agyness Deyn in POP Fall/Winter 08!
But I was even more surprised with the name of the photographer.
It was Ryan McGinley!
Now you might not know this, but he is one of my favourite photographers.
I love the way I always get surprised by new work of him:)

Ryan McGinley is only 30 years old and lives in New York and he's very big in the artscene there. He started with photography as a teenager documenting his friends in NY. The art community started to take notice of him when he published a book called 'The kids are alright' and sent it to the artists and magazine editors he loved. At the age of 25, he was the joungest person ever to be given a solo exhibiton in the Witney Museum of American Art. He used to only take pictures of his friends but his newest photographs are shot mainly in a natural settings and focused on subjects interacting spontaneously.

I'm totally in love with his work. All of his pictures have such a strong feeling or mood to them. And I've seen them so many times now but they never get boring:

A couple of days ago I went with some friends to the shed of Suze's parents. We had like an idea to inflate some balloons and have some sort of huge photoshoot with us jumping inbetween all the balloons. This is how it went (had to make the pictures a bit smaller and less quality so uploading was easier)(just a couple of pictures of the large bunch of weird photos):
Inflating balloons is a tough job.
But they look really nice, right?

We actually got really hungry of inflating all those balloons, so it was pizza-time!

Tim and Jasper had to take the guitar back to suze's house or something, but the pizza was already there, so there we sat, 3 people eating pizza in some sort of shed with a lot of balloons.

I said come on Suze, let's make some pictures. So I and Maxine did like a 5 minute photoshoot with Suze. We were all kind of tired/in a weird mood so it was pretty lame and I thought that the pictures would look boring but they were actually pretty cool:

Tim and Jasper arrived, we had some more pizza and some beer. It was already time to go back home and we thought, we have to take some quick pictures with us and the balloons, because of not inflating those balloons would have been a waste of time.
Well it ended up being a very weird and messy fotoshoot, without looking at composition or whatever. We just did fun things in front of the camera;) I think they're very funny!

Went to festival de Beschaving yesterday, and it was greeaaattt!!!
I went there with Suze, Tim, Matthijs and Bas, a couple of friends.

We started with Friska Viljor, and they were really good. I didn't expect that.
And I thought singer Joakim was really cute;) We saw him later on standing somewhere and me and Suze wanted to talk to him but we were too scared, so we stood next to him for about 5 minutes, and then I said 'Hey we think you're really great' and then we ran away:p

You probably couldn't see for the lights but you were staring straight at me;) Sweet Joakim.

Fuck Forever, their final song, was the best and I totally went nuts on my own (I lost my friends somewhere in the pit).

Soko was also absolutely amazing. She sang most of her songs with Kate Nash as backing vocals. She also sang a song with Adam Green called 'Babycat'. That was so funny, because Adam Green made catsounds in a very low voice. I filmed 'I wanna look like a tiger', also with Kate Nash:

Long time no see, I know. But I've done so much the last couple of weeks.
I've been to a photographycamp, Buitenkunst. It was amazing! I made a lot of nice photos and the critique on them by the teachers was really good. I'll post those the next couple of days on my flickr, and I'll post some photos that I made on my holiday (there are already about 4 of them on it). Check them out if you like!

After I saw the show of The Kooks in the biggest tent of lowlands, I went with Saskia and Jorinde to the Magneetbar, a little bar where you can sign up to perform an act yourself. When we came, we saw someone playing who looked and sounded a lot like Luke Pritchard, the singer of The Kooks. But we thought that it couldn't possibly be him. Afterwards it turned out that it really was him, and I was only about 2 metres away from him :o
Laura Marling, a female singer/songwriter who I completely adore, she's so good.

Spanish vintage food for camera's

I wrote this on Tuesday but I had problems with the pictures (so yesterday is monday etc)

I came back a couple of days ago from North-Spain, where I went with my dad and sister. It was really nice, we stayed at 3 different places there. One nearby beaches and old towns, one in the mountains and one in Bilbao. I took a lot of pictures. I wish I could show you all. Here are a few (click on them to see them better):

San Vincente, a city nearby the place (Santilliana del mar) where we stayed.

I'm very into abstract and minimal photography lately, made a lot of minimal/abstract shots (this is not a really good example of that)
The second place where we stayed, the one with the mountains. It was a very pretty old farm.

We went with a cable car high into the mountains )1850 m). It was really beautiful there. We also saw a couple of vultures.My sister in front of the mountains.

This one is called ´Bird, Bridge & Building in Bilbao´ Me in front of the Guggenheim Museum.

Yesterday I went with my dad to Amsterdam to go to the photography museum. It was a lot of fun. Afterwards I went to a couple of vintage shops.

I bought these two baggy pants. They are very low and soft.

And finally a Holga camera! If you wanna know what kind of camera it is, just type holga in google and you should find it.
And of course I had to make a picture of the camera and of me and the camera

Today I went to the Ikea to buy a mirror . The weatherman told me it would be bad weather so I thought Ikea would be a great idea but it wasn´t bad weather so I thought that was kind of mean. But I do have a mirror now, so it´s not thát mean.

I had a delicious dinner outside with my dad. We had Greec wraps with chicken with cinnamon and Tzatsiki. It´s one of my favourite dishes. We had some lovely prosecco with it.

O, and that´s me enjoying the prosecco, hihi.

Russian Red

Let me tell you about one of my new discoveries: Russian Red

Russian Red is a female singer-songwriter called Lourdes Hernandez. This 22-year-old student is stylish, beautiful ánd talented. She comes from Madrid but wisely chose to sing her songs in English, so more people can relate to them. She has a wonderful voice that is capable of making unique thrills. Her songs are accompanied by the sound of her delicate guitar playing. The instrumentation is on all most every song minimal, but that adds to the soft and honest feeling the songs have.

She just launched her first album, called 'I love your glasses' and I think it's a great succes. You might have to get used to her voice, which is very unique, but I'm sure that after that you'll notice that this girl has got a great future in music. She's at the moment only known in Spain, but I think that by the end of this year, her music has spread through the rest of Europe.

And I like to contribute to that;) So, you should all go and listen Russian Red!

Flash mob!

"A flash mob is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual action for a brief time, then quickly disperse"
is what wikipedia says about flash mob.
This 'unusual action' can vary from sudden pillow fights, freezing, falling asleep or whatever crazy thing you can think of.
I don't know if you've ever heard of it, but I think you should. It's fun to do and fun to watch!
I found this fantastic japanese flash mob yesterday ;) :

Not so long ago, someone started a flash mob troup in the Netherlands called 'Shoqs'. I took part in their first flash mob, which was inspired on a flash mob called 'frozen grand central' of the new york flash mob group called 'improv everywhere'. With a group of about 300 people we stood frozen for 5 minutes at the central station in Utrecht. It was so much fun, because while I was standing there (and having a hard time trying to not blink my eyes to much), I heard people saying things like 'what's going on?' and 'this is so cool'. Well, you just have to look at these 2 videos. The first one is the one in New York and the second is the one in Utrecht (I'm not in this video, but if you watch some other videos you can see me standing in my purple skinny)

I know, it’s a bit late, but I haven’t got the time yet to tell you about Patrick Watson :D
So now I thought, girl, what’s more important, spreading the word that Patrick Watson is the most awesome guy in the world, or learning for my Dutch test.
The choice was easily made.
Well, here’s the story:
It was a normal Monday evening. Everyone was sitting at home in front of the tv or knitting or whatever. But four friends, and a couple of Czech people who happened to be at the right place and the right time, were lucky enough to spend this evening way better than any other person in the city.
A train arrived. It was the train that went to Den Haag. People stepped in to go home, to have a dinner with a friend or just because they liked trains. But the four friends and the 2 Czech people were on a mission. They arrived in Den Haag and started walking. No one knew where they went. They walked miles and miles until they saw a building with a big ‘P’. “this must be it”, one of them said. They stepped in, put of their coats and walked the stairs. When one of them opened the door, it made a creaking sound. In the room, there were a couple of people standing in groups. No one seemed to bother the fact that the four friends and the 2 Czech people came into the room. They waited, while one of them was getting some sort of gold yellow liquid.
A band started to play. A couple of people turned their head to the stage, while others thought about the meaning of life. It began to get more crowded in the room. They were there for only one thing, just like the four friends and the 2 Czech people, which was about to start any minute. People got quiet, and suddenly, there he was:
PATRICK WATSON!

Yeaaah!!
It was supppperaaweesomme:D:D
It was a whole spectacle including singing saws, electric toothbrushes and good good music!!

I’ve made some pictures, but they are not so good, because I could only take a crappy camera with me.

Jazzzzzz in Woerden

Saturday I went to a festival called Jazz in Woerden with some friends. I knew that Wouter Hamel and New Cool Collective would come, so I had to go.
Wouter Hamel was really cool, and he has awesome hair;)
At the end he invited us on stage, and we sang some lines along with him, it was fun!
But I was actually more excited about the New Cool Collective, who would play after Wouter Hamel. But when he was finished, it suddenly began to rain very hard and there was thunder right above us. And then I heard that the main stage was struck by lightning and the church also and we had to look for a shelter, but it was actually very funny;)
But it’s a pity New Cool Collective couldn’t play. But it was nice anyways.

Vampire Weekend!

I thought that about now, everyone would have heard about the amazing band called Vampire Weekend. But I mentioned them to a couple of friends the other day and no one seemed to know who they are.
So remember this name: Vampire Weekend.
Though the name might sound kind of goth, it’s the total opposite. This Indie band from New York makes very happy music, with a lot of African tunes mixed into it. Every song begins with a catchy intro, from classical violins to wicked guitars. And then you’ll find yourself in a paradise of fantastic riffs, freaky tunes and wonderful lyrics. From the first second of the album till the last you’ll have a smile on your face.
They sure made my 2008 begin wonderfully!

Alela Diane was amazing saturday.

Every song was so delicate!

She made us sing and clap along with the Pirate's Gospel, which was really fun:D

When the show was over she came back twice to sing another song for us, because everyone in the concert hall was screaming and clapping so loud.

After the show she was selling cds and tshirts with the girl who performed before her and I thought it would be cool to get her autograph so I asked her and now I have a signed ticket:)

Maybe these days I'm going to write a review of her concert, but I think won't have the time, because I have so many tests lately.

I'm very excited, because tonight I'm going to see Alela Diane live!
I don't know if you've ever heard of this girl from Nevada City, but she's amazing.
She's a singer-songwriter who makes beautiful folk songs with a slightly country feeling.
Her songs never sound happy, but it's not that they sound sad, it's a mood inbetween which you can only grasp if you listen to it.
I don't have the time right now to tell you more about her, because I'm going to get some chinese right now and watch my father's new woodstock dvd (which I gave him for his birthday today) and then were going to Alela Diane!

Do you recognise this sentence?
Well I certainly do, I've been told many times.
I don't know why, because I can drum on tables pretty well, if I say so myself.
But that's all over now, because some sweethearts have thought of a table especially made to drum on!
The percussion tables (the Musical Rumba Series) are available in different sizes and you can rearrange all the percussion inserts whenever you want.
There's only one problem. The tables are way too expensive.
Prizes go from $800-2900.

Hello everyone!
I’m Cleo, and I’ve just started this blog, called Girl under the sea.
I was thinking of writing a fun kind of story yesterday to post as a first post, in which I would tell you about how I think about some things, and it would be very funny and immediately grab your attention so you would continue reading this blog.
But today I thought that maybe it is a better idea to just start of with introducing myself and telling you what this blog will be about(don’t be sad, those stories will come later on, I think).
So, as I said, my name is Cleo and I’m a 16-year-old girl.
I live in the Netherlands (if anyone not Dutch is reading this -> yes, we have tulips here. No, almost nobody wears clogs).
My hobbies are playing guitar, dancing, acting and drawing.
I’m also very interested in music and photography.
I’ve started photography more than a half year ago and I’m trying to get better in it. So that’s a hobby too, of course. I’ve started playing guitar also a half year ago, or maybe a bit earlier.
I’m not that good at it yet, but I will be one day.
I also like to go to the theatre, concerts and museums.

What’s this blog going to be about:
- Music All sorts and styles, as long as I like it. (I especially like singer-songwriters, funky stuff, innovative bands) And maybe I will post my own music later on, because I’m trying to make a short songJ
- Art Great photographers, great painters, great expositions etc. I’m not sure yet if I’m going to post my own drawings. But you will not find my photography here, if you would like to see it, click on the link on the site that says 'my flickr'
- Fashion Fashion shows I like, my own outfits
- Other Theatre shows/concerts I went to, fun websites, nonsense and everything else.

I’m sure I’ve forgotten some things but you will notice that if you read it!
